Laparoscopic Pelvic Floor / Prolapse Repair in India
Quick answer
Laparoscopic pelvic floor repair lifts the prolapsed uterus or vaginal top from inside the abdomen and fixes it to strong support, using keyhole surgery. It suits women with apical (top) prolapse wanting durable support. Stay is usually one or two nights, with about one to two weeks in India.

At a glance
In laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy or sacrohysteropexy, the surgeon attaches the vagina or uterus to a strong ligament on the sacrum (tailbone area) with a strip of mesh. In other techniques, the uterus is lifted using the body's own ligaments. All of this is done through small cuts.
This approach mainly treats prolapse of the uterus or vaginal top. Front or back wall prolapse may be repaired vaginally at the same time. It needs a surgeon with advanced keyhole and urogynaecology training.
How this approach differs
Unlike vaginal repair, the keyhole route supports the top of the vagina from above, attaching it to a strong ligament. This can give a more durable result for apical prolapse and keeps vaginal length. Recovery is usually short, but the operation takes longer and needs advanced laparoscopic skills. Mesh placed this way has a different risk profile from vaginal mesh, which your surgeon will explain.
Who needs laparoscopic pelvic floor / prolapse repair
- Uterine prolapse in women wanting to keep the uterus
- Vault prolapse after hysterectomy
- Recurrent prolapse after vaginal repair
- Active women wanting durable support
- Women who want to avoid vaginal mesh
How it is done
- General anaesthesia and keyhole port placement.
- The bowel is moved aside to show the sacral ligament.

- Mesh or sutures attach the uterus or vagina to the sacral ligament.
- The mesh is covered with the lining of the pelvis.
- Additional vaginal repairs are done if needed.

Frequently asked questions
What is sacrocolpopexy?
It is a keyhole operation that attaches the top of the vagina to a strong ligament near the tailbone. It is often used for vault prolapse. It gives firm, lasting support.
Is mesh safe in laparoscopic prolapse repair?
Mesh placed through the abdomen has a lower complication rate than vaginal mesh. Risks still exist. Your surgeon will discuss them fully.
Can I keep my uterus with this surgery?
Yes. Sacrohysteropexy lifts the uterus without removing it. Discuss whether this suits you.
How long will the repair last?
Many women have lasting support, but recurrence can occur. Avoid heavy lifting and constipation. Keep up pelvic floor exercises.
Can I have this surgery as a visitor to India?
Yes, many women travel for it. Send your examination findings and scans beforehand. Plan a short stay for surgery and review.
