Fertility assessment for couples in India
Quick answer
A fertility assessment checks both partners together, usually over a few days, to find out why pregnancy has not happened and which treatment fits. For women it covers ovulation, ovarian reserve, uterus and tubes; for men, a semen analysis and sometimes hormone tests. Many tests can be done at home first, so the India visit focuses on gaps.

At a glance
Infertility is commonly defined as not conceiving after a year of regular unprotected intercourse, or six months for women over 35. Causes are shared between partners, so assessing only one partner can miss key information.
A well-organised assessment avoids repeating tests and ends with a clear plan: timed intercourse, ovulation induction, IUI, IVF or ICSI, or surgery for a specific problem.
How this approach differs
The aim is a complete picture from both partners in one visit. Starting with remote review of existing reports keeps the trip short.
Who needs fertility assessment for couples
- Couples trying for a year (or six months if the woman is over 35)

- Men with known testicular problems or past surgery
- Couples wanting a second opinion before IVF
How it is done
- Consultation with history and examination for both partners.
- Day 2 to 5 hormone tests and AMH for the woman.

- Tubal test such as HSG or HyCoSy.
- Semen analysis for the man, repeated if abnormal.
- Review appointment with a written plan.
Before you travel to India

- Menstrual cycle dates so tests can be timed
- Both partners should travel if possible
- Abstinence of two to five days before semen analysis
Recovery and flying home
- Most tests need no recovery.
- HSG may cause brief cramping.
- Results are discussed before you leave.
Risks

- Rare infection after tubal tests
- Anxiety while waiting for results
- Repeating tests unnecessarily if earlier reports are not shared

Frequently asked questions
How long does a fertility assessment take in India?
Often three to five days, depending on cycle timing for tubal and hormone tests.
Does my husband need to come?
Ideally yes, for semen analysis and examination. Some tests can be done at home and sent in advance.
Which day of my cycle should I arrive?
Many hormone tests are done on day 2 to 5, and tubal tests after bleeding stops but before ovulation. Arriving on day 1 or 2 is often convenient.
