BBL combines two steps: liposuction of the waist, back or thighs, then grafting the purified fat into the buttocks. Slimming the waist also makes the buttocks look rounder.

The serious danger is fat embolism, where fat enters large veins in or under the gluteal muscle and blocks blood flow to the lungs. Safety guidance is that fat goes only into the layer under the skin, never into the muscle. The NHS notes that about half of the injected fat may not survive, so more sessions are sometimes needed.

How this approach differs

Plan at least 10 days to two weeks in India. NHS guidance is to wait 5 to 7 days after liposuction before flying, but sitting on a long flight puts pressure on grafted fat, so many surgeons advise a longer stay and a BBL cushion under the thighs. You wear a compression garment on liposuction areas for several weeks and avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for the period your surgeon sets. Ask directly whether the surgeon injects above the muscle only and whether ultrasound guidance is used. A second session months later may be needed if much of the fat is reabsorbed.
