Can I convert a tourist visa to a medical visa while I am in India?
Quick answer
Usually not. Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai states that a non-medical visa cannot be converted to a medical or medical attendant visa within India. Applicants must apply through the visa authorities in their home country. The same hospital will not register foreign patients who hold any other visa type. Other hospitals may have similar rules. If treatment is the main purpose of your trip, apply for the medical visa before you fly.
